One fateful evening, he stumbles upon an abandoned Persocom, a personal computer designed to resemble a human being, and decides to take her in. The Persocom, who comes to be known as Chii, is peculiar in that she can only utter a single word, "Chii," and lacks the ability to download information onto her hard drive. Despite her limitations, Hideki is determined to teach Chii about the world, all while juggling his college entrance exams.

As Hideki delves deeper into Chii's mysterious past, he begins to unravel the truth about her existence and the urban legend surrounding "Chobits," special units capable of experiencing human emotions and thoughts, including love. With the help of his friends, Hideki sets out to uncover the truth about Chii's nature and whether it's possible for a Persocom and a human to form a romantic connection. As their bond grows stronger, Hideki finds himself torn between his affection for Chii and the societal norms that dictate what it means to be human.
