As the Iwatobi High School Swim Club marks its first anniversary, the core members - Haruka Nanase, Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rei Ryuugazaki - face a new challenge: recruiting fresh talent to ensure the club's survival. With graduation looming, the seniors must also contemplate their post-high school plans, a daunting task given their uncertain career aspirations. Unlike Rin Matsuoka, the driven captain of Samezuka Academy Swim Club, Haruka and Makoto struggle to define their professional goals.

The arrival of Sousuke Yamazaki, a skilled swimmer scouted by Samezuka, further complicates the relationships among Rin, Haruka, and their friends.
